One : I heard a radio ad this morning for a Toyota dealer offering “Used Car Leases” on any model in their CPO program. The examples they gave were “Corolla or Camry” 2013 or newer, 15k miles/yr, $150/mo with NO down payment. NPOCP? If you’re just looking for cheap reliable transportation, this actually seems like a decent deal. Thoughts? Has anyone heard of this before? Is it common? In any case, I couldn’t really care less. Just curiosity.

Two : I dropped my car off at an independent shop this morning and they will warranty their own labor (for a year) on any part they install that fails and where the part has a warranty (for at least a year). Pretty cool, for an independent shop!

That is all. A detail on my new truck, for your time:

$150/mo with nothing down does seem like a good deal if all you want is a reliable ride to work and back. I haven’t heard of CPO leases here, but it is an interesting idea. Not that I would personally do it, but it would have been a good option for someone like my brother instead of buying a 15 year old used car.

yeah, exactly! It doesn’t interest me, but it seems like a reasonable option for someone without the ability to pay cash or put down several thousand in a down payment...

150 a month is quality cheap transportation.

I bought my Milan and got it financed with 150 a month (ish) it was a long loan though to make that happen and now I’m driving a 9 year old car with 103k miles on it. I’m ok with that but a lot of people aren’t. Good deal for those people.

I wonder what kind of credit score you need to qualify though. Remember that leasing is just financing the purchase price of the car minus the pre-negotiated residual. You still pay interest rolled into those monthly payments. A lot of people attracted to that offer may see it balloon up to over $200 after their credit is run.

Unrelated to anything but your picture, the cog and lightning bolt rule and Ford needs to bring that shit back right meow.

Hmm, yeah I’ve never financed a car so I hadn’t thought about that... Not trying to sound smug - I just don’t buy expensive cars.

I know, right? That is such a badass logo. What if that was on the new Focus RS? It could be like Ford’s ///M badge...

Don’t get me wrong - it is an interesting idea and could be a good choice for a lot of people who want reliable transportation. It works in this case because Toyotas tend to be reliable and have high residuals. I wouldn’t be surprised to see if pop up somewhere like Honda too. There was a time a few years ago where I had some major home repairs wipe out my savings and had an older car with some issues, but I still had an 800 credit score and could’ve easily jumped into something like this. It seems to me, though, that it is a promotion designed to get folks into the door and convince them to actually lease a new car for a higher payment than they planned. That or they just are sitting on a glut of unsold CPO’s - which considering the last time I looked Toyota CPO’s were usually priced within $1,500 of new seems probable.

The five star shield made it to a bunch of Ford models other than the trucks, but apparently the cog and bolt were ‘53-’66 on trucks, probably symbolizing “putting power to work”. Or something. It’s cooler than text saying Super Duty, to be sure.

Also unrelated to your post, when can we look forward to a photo dump of the new Ford?

While we’re on that tangent, I love (hate) how Boss snowplows have a standard-duty plow that says in HUGE letters across the front “STANDARD DUTY” like, what? Are you trying to shame your customers into buying the Super or Heavy or whatever? Who advertises base models like that? Boss, apparently. I’ve always been a Fisher guy anyway. Wow, I did say, tangent, right? Oh yeah, the lightning bolt logo was on the floormat of my ‘72, also. But nowhere else in the truck.

Compare to a $300/mo 60 month payment and keeping the car 120 months. Not bad at all.

Welp, it snowed this morning. Annnd there’s fuel leaking from the carb, probably the acc. pump and/or fuel bowl gasket, maybe one other place. So it’s not moving for a few days. I’ll take some more pics when it gets nice though because it doesn’t have to move to take pics!
